The Foxhole
2023-2024 design and branding
In early 2023, Mack was hired to be a lead designer for a new boutique cocktail bar set to open later that year in downtown Bellingham. Over the next grueling six months, Mack played a major role conceptualizing the vibe, name, menu, interior design, service style and core values of what eventually became The Foxhole. The walk-up bar served unusual, original cocktails with an absinthe focus and prioritized making space for the queer community. The aesthetic goal was victorian "whimsigoth" apothecary-meets-moody euro pub.
Mack was responsible for much of the light design, art curation, color palettes, textile selections, furniture selection and placement, logo and branding, but their main focus were the large-scale mosaics found around the front of the bar which they designed and masoned. All tasks were budgeted while making as few aesthetic sacrifices as possible. Many items were obtained second-hand including the mosaics which were made using found materials and second-hand tiles, all of which added to the overall vibe.
Mack eventually took on the role of general manager and continued to spearhead the drink program, event planning, collaborations and day to day management.
